Cascading VIP Rule Evaluation

VIP rules define the criteria for granting or revoking VIP status on your channel. With our cascading priority system, rules are evaluated from top to bottom based on the order you set in the dashboard.

When a viewer qualifies for a rule (e.g., Top 5 Points), they are excluded from being selected in all subsequent lower-priority rules (e.g., Top 2 Chatters). This maximizes the number of unique viewers receiving VIP, preventing a single highly engaged viewer from consuming slots across multiple rules.

Configuring Rules

When creating a VIP Rule, you define the exact criteria, limits, and duration for the award.

Criteria

What metric should be used? (e.g., Total Points, Top Gifter, Top Bits, Top Chatter, Watch Time).

Limit (Top N)

How many users should receive VIP from this rule? (e.g., Top 5 viewers). If a user who naturally qualifies is excluded due to a higher-priority rule, the next user in line is automatically bumped up into the Top N.

Evaluation Period

Which timeframe of data should be analyzed?

  • Daily / Weekly: Evaluates data for the current day or week.
  • Monthly: Evaluates data for the previousmonth (so a user earns VIP for October based on September's stats).
  • Custom: Evaluates data between two specific dates.

VIP Duration

How long should they keep the VIP status?

  • Hours / Days: Revokes after the specified time.
  • Until Next Stream: Revokes when your next stream starts.
  • Until End of Period: For monthly rules, this means the VIP lasts from the 1st to the last day of the current month.

Two-Step Manual Evaluation

StreamForge uses a safe two-step evaluation flow to ensure you always know who is getting VIP:

  1. Evaluate Now (Preview): When you click Evaluate, you will see a preview dialog. It lists the exact users who are Qualified to receive VIP, as well as users who were Skipped because they already have VIP from a higher-priority rule.
  2. Confirm & Grant: After reviewing the list, you confirm the action. StreamForge will then call the Twitch/Discord APIs to grant the roles and record the awards in your VIP History.

Ignore Lists & Permanent VIPs

The VIP system respects your other settings:

  • Permanent VIPs: Viewers granted VIP via the Permanent VIPs tab are always excluded from automation rules. They don't consume slots.
  • Ignore List: Viewers on your Ignore List (global or rule-specific) are completely skipped during evaluation.
